Hodgkinson Wraps Up Season with Winning Display at Athlos in NYC
Hodgkinson recorded her personal best of one minute 54.61 seconds last year in London.
The Olympic champion concluded her two-lap season with a win at the all-female Athlos meet in NYC on Friday night.
{The reigning Olympic gold medallist, who secured third place at the World Championships recently, excelled in an impressive win in 1:56.53 in what was only her sixth race in a season affected by a hamstring injury.
Compatriot and world silver medallist Georgia Hunter Bell finished second again in one minute 58.33 seconds, while St Vincent's Shafiqua Maloney (one minute 58.57) claimed third.
"I haven't competed much this year so it was likely easier for me to compete and be motivated to perform," stated Hodgkinson.
"The environment at the event is crazy so it was really, really fun."
The women-only meet filled Icahn Stadium in its second edition, bringing a festive vibe to conventional athletics, with musical performances and special crowns replacing traditional winners' medals.
The 23-times tennis major winner Serena W., who is wed to Athlos founder Alexis Ohanian, was on hand to present the victors with their tiaras.
Previous champions received sixty thousand dollars (£44,603) - one of the largest prize purses in track and field.
The event also drew some of the sport's biggest names, as the Kenyan three-time Olympic gold medallist and world record holder Faith Kipyegon triumphed in the mile race, crossing the finish line in four hours 17.78 minutes.
American Brittany Brown, the 200m bronze medallist from the recent Paris Games, secured the sprint double.
